My Church Group Attendance is Decreasing???

I was reading a blog entry today from churchBlast.com that was written by a guy who was having problems with his youth group dying out. You can read the blog discussion here. It’s interesting how many ministers and church workers find themselves one day wondering, "Where did everyone Go?" and "How do I fix this?" There are probably a million and one different opinions on what needs to be done and what programs will bring more people, but that’s not what I want to discuss here… my opinion… be thankful. Odd opinion, huh? I can honestly say I have walked through this very same thing recently, wondering why is this thing not growing and what do I need to do? What I found was I should still allow myself to be creative in finding new ways to reach out, but it should not effect my thankfulness and worth of where I am at this point… this time… now.

I’m amazed at how many ministers struggle with this very same issue, and how many of us beat ourselves up over supposedly "not being good enough." When Jesus was here he chose to pick the one’s that were not "good enough" to be his disciples (if you are wondering what I’m talking about click on this link to read an article that will help explain). I don’t think this whole thing is about being good enough, but more about being… willing. So, if you have been in this spot or are currently walking through it, remember to be thankful for what you have and be willing to keep going… God will supply the rest.

We need to move from numbers based success stories to transformation based success stories. Then pastors will strive for changed lives, not changed bottom lines.

[...] I posted a blog a while back titled "My Church Group Attendance is Decreasing" where I found an article about a youth pastor who was concerned about his group attendance decreasing. This has stayed on my mind. So often we look at church success as having the most people, the most money, the best programs, and the most resources, but is this really success? What about the church that has 10… 20… 50 people, but they look like Jesus in their community. Their community recognizes Jesus without the "stuff" but in the people. Maybe, church success is different than what it has been believed to be. Maybe, we don’t need the latest and greatest, but in fact we already have it…. but we’re not using it. [...]
