Have you ever tried to be creative when the creative juices just were not flowing? I’ve been there. I work in youth ministry, church software, blogging, and a whole world of other things that require me to be creative. I am on the side that if you are going to do something… do it to the best of your ability and as creatively as you can. I can remember in ministry meetings we would have these "creative sessions" where no matter what you had to say or think about something… you said it, whether you thought it was stupid or not. I can’t tell you how many silly ideas I would throw out, but many of them we actually did once we started talking about it.
Creativity is about more than saying the right thing that everyone wants to hear. I see it as being more about discovering. Creativity is discovered. It is pulled out from under some rock in our heads and examined. In many of those creative meeting we had, someone would through out a completely outrageous idea, but it would spark something that was really good. Unless, that person had spoken up and said something, we would have missed the entire opportunity to find a really creative idea.
So, if you have a hard time being creative or getting the "flow" going… keep trying. Look at things differently, try to let your logic and your imagination work together, it will come. If you are still having a hard time take a look at the Church Relevance blog, they had a great article that can help you jump start the creative juices located at this link.
